I have a question about Wishes for edh, i know the rulings say in a sanctioned event you can wish for things in your side board, but since its pretty much all casual we can wish for anything right?

I was looking at glittering wish, in say a green white deck, could you wish for say a Progenitus. It isnt in your deck, and wouldnt be breaking any rules.. if you had mycosynth lattice in order to cast it... it is possible right?

unless im way off with how the wish works

The Wishes say that you can take a card you own (of a specified type) reveal it (except in Death Wish's case) and put it into your hand.

Because Progenitus would be outside your colour, it cannot be in your hand.

If an effect would put cards from your hand on top of your library (Such as Agonizing Dreams), your deck would be illegal and you would technically lose.

So it is not possible.

In EDH the rules say that you can wish for a card that is Exiled and no longer in the game.

This is because if you were to put a card from outside the game into your hand, that would also change your deck size from 99 to 100 and again, illegality would beat you up.

We can discuss whether or not to change that for casual once we get more input.

V, you're crazy. You wish for a card outside the game. This no longer includes exiled cards as the exiled zone is now technically still in-game. In casual you wish for any card in your collection, although Most players use the 'search for a card in your sideboard' rule like tournaments use. Since there is a 10-card pre-sideboard in EDH (although it doesn't get used that often) you would be searching from there. If you were to look from outside the game however, you would be able to look for anything within the legal parameters of deck construction. I'm not entirely sure how this works in EDH because each deck construction rules are different based on what general you use, I believe however that you can look for anything that's not banned in EDH.

But by wishing for it, your deck goes above 99 cards.

Because it is now In The Game, and since even with the wish exiled, it is still in the game, making your total 100.

Therefore illegal. :O

Either way, I say we should be able to wish within the confines of EDH rules. Very Happy

*sigh*

EDH Sideboards

Rather than filling every deck with banal responses, it is preferable to allow some flexibility in the composition of a deck.

* Players may bring a 10 card sideboard in addition to their 99 cards and 1 General.
* After generals are announced, players have 3 minutes to make 1-for-1 substitutions to their deck.
* Any cards not played as part of the deck may be retrieved by "wishes".

Combine the above with this:
Quote :
The General's mana cost defines what colour of mana symbols may appear on cards in the deck. Details

* Coloured mana symbols which may appear in an EDH deck are restricted to the colours appearing in the General's mana cost.
* Lands whose type includes swamp, island, plains, forest and/or mountain (e.g.: basic lands, shocklands, dual lands, Shadowmoor special-basics, etc) DO contain the corresponding mana symbol(s) as per CR 305.6. As such, they may not appear in a deck unless the General is of the corresponding colour(s).
* While Hybrid mana symbols may be played with either colour mana, they count as both colours. As such, they may only be played with a general which is ALL of the hybrid mana symbols' colours.
* Basic land words (swamp, forest, etc) in the text box of a card do NOT represent a coloured mana symbol. They are not restricted to generals of the same colour.

1. The 99-card rule is established at deck construction from what I can understand. This shouldn't effect anything as you can still wish for cards within your colour.
2. Nowhere in the rules does it say that the colours within ones hand must follow their generals colour-code at all times (is there any way to get an opponents card in your hand? I thought we said there was one, or someone had one...)
3. Wishes can target any card not played as part of your deck. As a tournament standard, this would be the 10 card sideboard. In casual we will have to clarify if these need to be within the colours of your general.

This question has been asked already on the EDH forums. Lurk moar.

In the long run, it's up to the playgroup to determine the following:
A. If wishing can wish outside of our generals colours
B: If it's a no to A, then can wish search through our entire collection?
C: if it's a no to B, then will we be having the 10-card sideboard like we should (for wishing I suppose)?
